This year the Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers foundation will be donating almost a £100K to the individuals and charities that we support and that is only made possible by the money donated by our liveryman, and the fundraising that we do, such as the London Landmark Half Marathon, the London Marathon and the Pilgrims Bike ride.
Whilst we are probably most renowned for the bespoke orthopaedic shoes that we provide to veterans that have been injured in service, we do much, much more…
We support the advancement of Education, religion, the relief of Poverty
and other charitable purposes that are beneficial to the community.
The Charity Committee is there to select those charities and ensure our funding has the biggest impact that it can and that every penny donated, goes directly to supporting others less fortunate than ourselves.
Education, is vitally important and we support a range of initiatives, those from within our trades, apprenticeships and those on footwear courses to ensure that our specialism in orthopaedic footwear continues through the generations and design projects at schools to encourage footwear as a career.
We provide bespoke training programmes to our two future leader award winners to ensure we have the leaders of tomorrow within our trades.
We help fund bursaries for two talented children at the City of London School and also a chorister at St Pauls Cathedral School.
We also provide children with footwear to walk to school in, and laptops to study with and through our futures frontiers programme at Charterhouse school – we are supporting those that have fallen off the right path, giving them a second chance with mentoring and career support – creating possibilities for them where so often opportunities don’t exist – as social mobility is vitally important if we are to truly help our communities.
Communities and Community is especially important to all livery companies and we are delighted to support St Margaret Pattens church with our fellow livery company the Basketmakers.
There are two other charities to especially mention that ensure the relief of poverty:
St Mary Le Bow – with our support they provide the homeless and jobless to start over, a roof over their heads and a job to go to – they have an outstanding 88% success record with their clients
and
IChooseFreedom that ensures that women and their children are given a safe haven for 6 months when seeking refuge from domestic abuse. They ensure women are support when they need to start over, usually fleeing for their lives from their partners and are given essential assistance to get their life back on track.
To conclude, our moto translated from latin is: “women receive support from us” and we are proud to support, encourage and create opportunities not just for women but for men and children too.
We do all of this by asking our liveryman to donate money to all our fundraising efforts. If you are reading this and are one of our Liveryman then please do get more involved, or pehaps considering becoming a freeman and joining us, if you can, donate what you can, so others can walk more confidently in life.
